A general formula is derived for the probable error in large samples of the mode of Pearsonian frequency curves, with a discussion of the surface generated. The mode is usually less accurate than the mean, but in some [U-curves the antimode is more accurate. Tables of the probable error of the mode are given, as well as new tables of [beta]3 to [beta]6 for smaller differences of the arguments [beta]1 and [beta]2 than in Rhind''s tables.
