Experimental sampling from populations with 0[image][beta]1[image].5 and 2.5 [image][beta]2unspecified7.1 shows good agreement of z with Student''s results for sampling from a normal population and with Fisher''s 2 sample z-test. For a small sample there is danger with any test of accepting false values of the constants of the sampled population. The ratio z 1 = sample center/sample range, while appropriate in sampling from a rectangular population, is not so good as z for the populations tested.
