On the basis of the coefficient of racial likeness the races are classified in 4 groups: (1) Northern Mongolian: Aleuts, Buriats, Kalmucks, Mongols, Soyotes, Telen-ghites; (2) Northern Oriental: Chinese (Northern, Southern, and Prehistoric), Japanese; (3) Southern Oriental: Aetas, Burmese A, Dayaks, Javanese, Tagals, Southwestern Tibetans; (4) Indian: Dravidians, Nepa-lese, Hindus, Tamils, Veddahs. The Northern Mongolians differ greatly from the other groups, but there are affinities between the Northern and Southern Oriental groups and between the Nepalese and Southwestern Tibetans. The Andamanese skulls are similar in shape to the Burmese and Javanese, but significantly smaller, and probably are of a branch of the stock which degenerated in isolation. The Ainos resemble the Japanese, who are possibly a cross between Aino and Southern Chinese. The Chukchis resemble the Prehistoric but not the modern Chinese. The Eastern Tibetans resemble the Chukchis. The likeness of the Aetas and Andamanese to the Burmese and Javanese indicates that they are not Negritoes.
