The greatest authenticated number of children at one birth is 7. Cases of successive plural births and of the inheritance of plural births are discussed. In some cases inheritance is through the father and the pedigrees do not accord with R. A. Fisher''s conclusion that the paternal influence is exerted only in the production of diembryony. Whether the production of multiple births is a sign of vitality or of degeneracy is uncertain. The infant death rate is higher for plural than for single births. A bibliography is given.
