摘要:
The new instrument measures int. diams. more accurately than Weinert''s. The skull cap is thicker at the bregma than at the euryon. [male] skulls are in general a little thicker than [female]. There are marked sexual and racial differences in thickness of os frontale at glabella. The indices of int. diams. show increases over the external, greatest in ht.-length, less in breadth-length, least in ht.-breadth. There is less racial differentiation in the int. breadth-length index than in the external. Int. diams. and indices are, on the whole, more variable intraracially than are the external. In shape of skull cavity the primates are brachycephalic as compared with man, while most of the prehistoric human skulls are mesocephalic. The left hemisphere is on the average longer but narrower than the right, the left fossa occipitalis sup. more developed than the right, and the right sinus transv. larger than the left. A new formula for the estimation of cranial capacity from the int. cranial diams. gives better predictions than Lee''s and Pearson''s formulae.
