The author develops formulas for the first 4 cumulants of the [chi]2 which pertains to a n X 2-fold table and shows how tests of homogeneity can be obtained from them. These formulas may be used when the expected values of some of the cells are less than unity. A numerical application is given pertaining to frequency of cross-over between a number of sex-linked genes in Drosophila subobscura.
