One aim of the-nsuing discussion is to indicate the enhanced value of deterministic formulations of population dynamics when properly interpreted within more comprehensive stochastic models. After some remarks on the logistic .model of population growth for a single species, 2 problems are referred to: (1) the classical Lotka-Volterra predator prey relation, (2) competition between 2 species, with special reference to the competition between the 2 species of flour-beetle, Tribolium confusum and Trlbolium castaneum, as investigated by Park.
