The square root method accomplishes the same end results for multiple correlation as does the Doolittle method. It makes full use of the modern calculating machine, so that a minimum of numbers must be written down. The typical operation is a sum or difference of products, followed by a square root or a division. The method is readily learned, is compact and reduces the chance for errors. The non-mathematical reader will not have much difficulty with the notations if he will let the subscripts have particular values and find where each term appears in the tables. Checking the numerical examples is also a help.
