摘要:
This paper presents the text, but not the appendices, of the report of a committee appointed in 1950 by the Commission on Statistical Standards of the American Statistical Association. The purpose of the committee was to appraise the statistical methods used in Sexual Behavior in the Human Male by Kinsey, Pomeroy and Martin. A critical examination was made of interviewing techniques, methodological checks, sampling methods, methods of analysis, and accuracy and validity of interpretation. In addition comparisons were made with previous studies of a similar nature. With respect to improvements in future studies the committee made specific recommendations concerning the use of probability sampling, frequency of retakes, interviewing of spouses, methods of presentation and techniques of analysis. The work of the committee was undertaken with the full knowledge and cooperation of Kinsey and his colleagues. No appraisal of any kind was made of the second book on the human female.
