Autonomous synchronization presents a novel paradigm that circumvents the need for prior knowledge of target agent dynamics in the conventional synchronization of heterogeneous multiagent systems (MASs). It employs a dynamics update law and a state synchronizing control law, collectively termed a two-level controller, to facilitate synchronization in heterogeneous MASs autonomously. Nevertheless, the existing theory is constrained by the requirement of network topology information for calculating sufficiently large gains to design both the dynamics update law and the state synchronizing control law. To overcome this limitation, this article proposes a novel design for the two-level controller, enabling synchronization without reliance on network topology. The design parameters undergo adaptive updates until achieving autonomous synchronization, herein termed adaptive autonomous synchronization.
