This article tackles the asynchronous cooperative output regulation problem for heterogeneous nonlinear multiagent systems (MASs) characterized by jointly connected switching topologies. Considering the heterogeneity inherent in the MASs, we propose two distributed asynchronous observers. The first observer is developed to estimate the exosystem matrix, and the second is tailored to estimate the exosystem state. To guarantee the estimation accuracy of these observers, we formulate a relationship linking the maximum detection delay of unmatched intervals to the minimum dwell time of matched intervals. Capitalizing on the states from the distributed asynchronous observers and employing the backstepping structure, we proceed to design heterogeneous adaptive controllers for the nonlinear MASs. The effectiveness of our theoretical contributions is substantiated through numerical simulations, which are presented to validate the proposed control strategies.
