BOGOR/HYBRID, 13 August 2025 – Senior economic officials and experts from ASEAN Member States gathered today in Bogor, Indonesia, for the 4th Meeting of the ASEAN Geoeconomics Task Force (AGTF) to discuss strategies in navigating intensifying global geoeconomic challenges.
The meeting, co-chaired by YB Liew Chin Tong, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry of Malaysia, and Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono, Director General of International Trade Negotiation, Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, focused on assessing progress in the Task Force’s ongoing work and engagements with the private sector, and refining preliminary recommendations for the upcoming ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting.
Member States exchanged perspectives on the implications of recent unilateral tariff measures, examining both the challenges and potential opportunities arising from these policies. The discussion underscored the importance of coordinated regional responses, enhanced policy agility, and stronger public-private collaboration to mitigate risks to ASEAN’s supply chains, trade flows, and long-term competitiveness.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to continue refining AGTF’s recommendations intersessionally, with the report to be tabled at the 57th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting in September 2025.
